I was wondering, because I am going to continue to work on the videos over the weekend, if you have any comments or suggestions regarding things to change/work on in future vblogs? I am playing with the idea of differrent transition styles and maybe an audience shot, but I was also hoping to get comments on the audio transitions[should I not fade in and out as noticeably] and what about the use of b-roll or supplementary images. To what extent should I use them? And also, as a result, should I cut the clips down into shorter sound bytes or do you like the qualifications of a longer thought. You will probably/hopefully think of much better things to comment on, but those are just a few of the things that I am working on now. And please don't be shy, I can use the criticism!
You did a really great job. I think supplementary images would be a really good way to add interest to the stream of "talking heads", like you did when you had the names of all the sites in the beginning. I think that extra images might also add to more depth to the meaning of the critical themes that were focused on in the blog. Quite frankly this whole production thing is incredibly new to me so that is as best opinion as I can give. I'm just as interested to see what other people think though. I've got much more to learn than you I'm sure. But, in my opinion, it was very well done for the first blog. Also, not to sound completely ignorant, but what do you mean by "b-roll"?
i think itd be better not to fade the sound in and out as noticeably. i also thought the black frames between clips of jareki talking were a bit distracting. i loved the opening shot and think that other images would really be great - in my opinion, varied images keep the viewer from getting lazy and tuning out. audience shots would be cool, too. ill test this out this week and maybe we can compare the two in that way.
I am having a hard time viewing the vblog, I am only getting sound. Something about quicktime running difficulties keeps popping up on the computer. Consequently, I do not have any constructive comments at this time beyond my thourough enjoyment of what you had completed for class last Wednesday. I think some of the transitions could be smoothed over, but I will elaborate when I can look over the vblog again.
Philip, I thought the vblog was really great, especially because it was the first blog. I think that your opening sequence was nicely done. The main problems that I found with the video were the editing transitions. As other have mentioned this could have been smoother.
I really like the opening montage of times square with the audi from the screening over it. Some of the cuts throughout the blog were a bit rough though. I think that this can be improved by using basic crossfade trasitions on the audio and possibly video, but there are also lots of other cutting techniques that would be equally successful. Also, the lighting was problematic. As this was beyond your control in filming I know that there are some things that can be done post-production to bring out more color in the shots. Overall great first blog especially since it was (I think) your first time editing with final cut.
