Controlling the Media?

In lecture today, Professor Der Derian mentioned that with the "democratization" of media that is taking place thanks to the internet, we may be losing our editors and all the people who choose what is kosher, so to speak, for the rest of us to see. While there is a certain libertarian aspect to the internet at the moment, there seems to be some measure of controlling beginning to take place (most obviously with YouTube, or the article below this about digg.com) The lecture today reminded me of another example, which I read a while back in the NYT, about trying to set guidelines for bloggers.
