except for ...

Condoleeza Rice is correct, for the past 60 years, the United States has pursued stability instead of democracy in the Middle East and ended up with neither.

Except for Israel: The most stable democracy in the Middle East for almost 60 years running, and a U.S. ally for a signifigant portion of that time.

But I guess it's undiplomatic for Condi to point that out to the Egyptians.

Undiplomatic, but true. After all, Israel's functioning democracy is the source of its stability, and the equation between the was the point she was trying to make.

So three cheers for Israeli democracy. And an extra boo for all thise Saudi terrorists and authoritarians.
